SYRIA TRANSIT VISAS:

Required by all except those continuing their journey to another country within 24 hours by the same or first connecting aircraft without leaving the transit area and provided holding onward tickets and documents for their next destination.

SYRIA HEALTH:

Compulsory vaccinations: Yellow fever certificate if arriving from infected areas.

Recommended immunisations: Diphtheria, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Polio, TB, Tetanus &  Typhoid.

Risks: Rabies.

SYRIA WEATHER:

Summers are hot which lasts from Jun-Sep or early Oct. The rest of the year is more changeable with cloudy, rainy weather with odd cold spells bringing frost or heavy snow. These spells are infrequent particularly along the Mediterranean coast but can be quite severe in the mountains and inland. The main rainy season is between Nov-Feb although even in midwinter there can be periods of warm, dry weather. There is a gradual increase and decrease in temperature during the spring and autumn seasons.

Hints in Syria: At meetings it is polite to drink coffee or tea, when offered. It is the convention to use the right and not the left hand when shaking hands and passing or receiving anything. Many people speak French or English, a few words of Arabic will be appreciated. It is useful for business cards to have Arabic translation on reverse side. Muslim conventions apply. Veils should be worn when visiting holy places. Smoking is accepted but subject to some restriction in public places and public buildings and prohibited during Ramadan. Alcohol is available but consumption prohibited during Ramadan. On social occasions be punctual and dress as for business meetings unless otherwise indicated
