LIBYA TRANSIT VISAS:

Required by all except those as noted above and those continuing their journey to a third country within 24 hours without leaving the airport, provided holding confirmed tickets & documentation

LIBYA HEALTH:

Compulsory vaccinations: Yellow fever certificate if arriving from infected areas.

Recommended immunisations: Diphtheria, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Polio, TB, Tetanus & Typhoid.

Risks: Malaria exists from Feb to Aug in the south west of the country. Rabies.

Apart from along the Mediterranean coast Libya's climate is almost entirely desert. The winter period (Nov-Mar) on the Mediterranean coast is usually warm and sunny. Summers are hot but temperatures are tempered by strong sea breezes. In the south summer temperatures can be intense

It is advisable to have the amount registered in the passport on arrival. Exchange back to foreign currency is dependent on having spent at least USD 50 per day

Hints for Libya: English is often understood, although official business is usually conducted in Arabic. It is also government policy for official documents to be in Arabic or translated into Arabic. Islamic conventions apply and in general Arab courtesies and social customs prevail and should be respected. Women do not generally attend typical Arab gatherings. In religious buildings and small towns women should dress modestly. Smoking is common and codes of practice concerning smoking are the same as Europe. It is unwise to use or carry cameras. Food is generally eaten with the right hand only although knives and forks are generally available. There are no bars
