KENYA WEATHER:

Kenya has either a subtropical or a temperate climate and has variable rainfall from year to year. The coastal regions wettest season is between Apr-May and to a lesser extent Oct-Nov although rain occurs in all months. Temperatures stay high throughout the year but are tempered by strong onshore breezes. The northern frontier area and lower inland plateaux have very low rainfall and high temperatures all year round. The highlands in the centre and west of the country have two rainy seasons. The sunniest period is between Dec-Mar and the cloudiest, often with drizzle between late March and early June. July and August are the coolest months. The higher mountain regions have low enough temperatures for frost and snow to occur

Hotel Classification in Kenya: Hotel are classified and awarded a number of stars from 1 (the lowest) to 5 by the Licensing Department of the Ministry of Tourism. Hotel managers are also licensed by the same authority. The Classification of hotels is an on-going process. The criteria for classification are complex but included the size and fittings in bedrooms, the extent of services, the quality of food, the available recreation facilities and the hotels location. Clearly, there is some difficulty in applying these criteria to game lodges and even more so to tent camps so the grades there are less of a guide than in the case of a city hotel. Any town with a grading of 3 or more stars is satisfactory for international tourists and 1 and 2 star hotels would be in the budget bracket. On the other hand, many of the game lodges and tented camps graded with two stars are totally acceptable to the average tourist.
