JAPAN TRANSIT VISAS:

Transit visas for Japan are required by all except those as noted above.

If the Transit time is less than 72 hours, and the traveller is departing from the same airport of arrival, a shore pass may be issued

There are currently no compulsory vaccinations required.

JAPAN WEATHER:

Winters are cool and sunny in the south, getting colder further north with heavy snowfalls in Hokkaido and north western Honshu. Spring and autumn tend to be fairly mild. Summer, between Jun-Sep ranges from warm to very hot. Rainfall is evenly spread throughout the year, although between Jun- Jul is the main rainy season. Typhoons are only likely to occur in Sep-Oct but rarely last more than a day

Hints for Japan: On meeting and taking leave give a slight bow, but shaking hands is usually practiced with non Japanese. Business cards to have Japanese translation on reverse side. Some business executives speak English. Japanese customs and conventions are very different from those in Europe and North America and specialist travel guides should be read. Visitors should be perceptive to local customs. Laughter may disguise embarrassment. Small gifts from one's home country are welcome as tokens of appreciation. On social occasions be punctual and dress as for business meetings unless otherwise indicated. The minimum drinking age is 20 years
Tipping in Japan: Not customary. Advice should be obtained on how to show appreciation in the most appropriate manner

400 cigarettes (foreign or Japanese brands) or 100 cigars or 500gr of tobacco
3 bottles of alcoholic beverages
2 ounces of perfume

Prohibited/Restricted in Japan: Counterfeit, altered or imitated articles of coins, paper money, banknote or securities. All plants with soil, most meats, animals without health certificates, firearms and ammunition, narcotics (including drug 2C-B (branded Performax), obscene articles and publications. Pongee cloth made in Korea (South) is limited to 10 meters for personal use only, any amount over 10 meters may not be imported even with payment of tax. Not permitted to take commonly available nasal decongestant medication such as Sudafed and Vicks Inhalers into Japan.
