ICELAND TRANSIT VISAS:

Nationals of the following countries need an Airport transit visa when transiting/passing through an airport in Iceland: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, The People's Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Ghana, Iran, Iraq, Nigeria, Pakistan, Somalia and Sri Lanka.

This does not apply however, if the above mentioned nationals have a residence permit in a Schengen country or specific types of permits issued in Great Britain, Ireland, Liechtenstein, Andorra, United States, Canada, Japan, Monaco, San Marino or Switzerland and the permits are valid three months longer than intended transiting/passing through an airport in Iceland.  

ICELAND HEALTH:

Participants of the European Health Insurance Card (EHIC scheme) which allows visitors on short-term stays to other member countries to use the public health care sector for free or reduced-cost medical treatment and emergency care.

There are currently no compulsory vaccinations required.

Recommended immunisations: Tetanus & Polio.

ICELAND WEATHER:

Summers are cool and cloudy with short periods of fine weather. Winter temperatures at sea level are unexpectedly mild however much rain falls as snow, and mountain peaks stay snow covered throughout the year. Autumn and winter are the wettest seasons

Hints for Iceland: People are officially known by their first name. The second name is normally a compounded version of the father's or mother's first name plus the Icelandic words for `son' or `daughter'. Most executives speak English. The minimum drinking age is 20 years
Tipping in Iceland: A service charge is included in the bill. Tips are not expected
Hotel Classification in Iceland: The Icelandic Tourist Board has introduced a voluntary hotel classification scheme based on the 1- to 5-star system. Where available, a property's star rating is given here; otherwise arbitrary categories of £ up to £££££ have been allocated based on rack rates, facilities and perceived quality and equating to the star system.
Import Allowances for Iceland: For persons of 18 years of age or older:
200 cigarettes or 250gr of tobacco
1 lit of alcoholic beverages and 1 lit of wine less than 21% vol or 6 lit of beer instead of either wine or spirits (For persons of 20 years of age or older)
Prohibited/Restricted in Iceland: Firearms, drugs, uncooked meats, milk and eggs, narcotics and weapons. Note: Fishing equipment, including waders and rubber boots, riding equipment must be accompanied by a certificate of disinfection issued by an authorized veterinary authority
