EGYPT VISAS:

The following nationals DO NOT require a visa for Egypt:
UK , EU and USA nationals travelling to Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba and Taba resorts ONLY, for a maximum of 15 DAYS, do not require a visa prior to travelling as a free entry permission stamp will be granted upon arrival. If they intend to travel outside of the above mentioned areas they MUST obtain a Visa

Nationals from (Arab countries) are advised to contact the Consulate General before applying for the visa in order to confirm the required documentation.

 

For  holders of travel documents and nationals from the following countries, visa APPROVAL MUST BE SOUGHT from the competent Authorities in Egypt:  Iran, Tunisia, Somalia, Morocco, Algeria, Lebanon, Iraq, Palestine,  Ethiopia, Eritrea, Sudan (non residents in the UK), Djibouti, Mauritania,  Comoros, Burundi, Rwanda, Liberia, Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, Mali, Niger,  Chad, Israel, Afghanistan, Kosovo, Moldova, Philippines,  Sri Lanka,  Thailand, Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Myanmar.
Approval/rejection of application takes from 4 to 6 weeks and the Consulate  will contact the applicant via email/telephone/SMS to inform him/her of the  decision taken regarding his/her application. We advise not to make any flight or hotel booking before getting the approval. Kindly note that original documents and fees are NOT required until approval  has been obtained.

Citizens of the following countries can obtain a visa upon arrival at any of the Egyptian ports of entry: Australia, Canada, Croatia, Georgia, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, Macedonia, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, Serbia, Ukraine and USA

Malaysian nationals can stay in Egypt for up to two weeks without a visa. If their stay exceeds two weeks, the usual requirements apply

EGYPT TRANSIT VISAS:

Transit visas are required by all continuing their journey to a third country within 12 hours without leaving the airport, provided holding confirmed tickets

EGYPT HEALTH:

Compulsory vaccinations: Yellow fever certificate if arriving from infected areas. All infants under 1 year are exempt. Air passengers in transit coming from countries or areas without a certificate will be detained in the precincts of the airport until they resume their journey.

Recommended immunisations: Diphtheria, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Malaria, Polio, TB, Tetanus & Typhoid.

Risks: Malaria- very limited risk exists from Jun-Oct in El Faiyum area (no reported cases since 1998). Rabies.

EGYPT WEATHER:

Apart from along the Mediterranean coast Egypt's climate is nearly entirely desert. The winter period (Nov-Mar) on the Mediterranean coast can be variable although it is usually sunny. Summers are hot but temperatures are tempered by strong sea breezes. In the south summer temperatures can be intense, however, the low humidity makes the heat more bearable and winters are dry and sunny.

Hints for Egypt: Women should dress conventionally. A headscarf may be useful if visiting a religious or more traditional area. Business is conducted in Arabic although many executives speak English or French. Business cards to have Arabic translation on reverse side. Islamic conventions apply. At meetings it is polite to drink coffee or tea, when offered. Smoking is becoming unacceptable in government and some private offices. Alcohol is available in most major hotels, cafe-style bars and international restaurants. On social occasions dress as for business meetings unless otherwise indicated
Tipping in Egypt: Service charges are normally added to restaurant & hotel bills, however additional tips around 5% are customary. Tips for taxis are around 10%
Hotel Classification in Egypt: Hotels and holiday villages throughout Egypt are officially graded from 1 to 5 star but the standard is significantly lower than that of equivalent European star ratings. 1- and 2-star properties are unlikely to be used by British tour operators and are best suited to people prepared to "rough it".
