VISAS: The following nationals DO NOT require a visa: Libya, Algeria, Egypt, Mauritania, Morocco, Sudan, Tunisia, for stays of up to 3 months to Syria, for stays of up to 1 month to Jordan, United States (including their family members, even if having another nationality provided they are travelling together & holding a letter from an established company in Libya sponsoring their visit. If family members of United States nationals travel individually the above letter should also confirm that prior arrangements were made with the Libyan Immigration Department to secure entry into Libya) & those holding a valid re-entry visa.
Nationals of Germany, who require a visa obtained abroad, will be refused entry if they hold visas issued by Libyan representations other than by the representative of Libya situated in Bonn (Germany).
Visas can be issued on arrival in exceptional cases only. Approval for a visa on arrival must be sought from the delivering carrier in Libya and will only be given after receipt of a copy of a letter or special form from the Libyan Immigration authorities confirming that a visa will be granted on arrival at the airport. This copy must be sent to the office of the delivery carrier in Libya at least 24 hours in advance.
The number and date of approval by the General Administrator of the Libyan Immigration must appear on all visas issued by the Libyan People's Bureau abroad. Wording is in Arabic.
TRANSIT VISAS: Required by all except persons (except nationals of Germany), continuing their journey to a third country within 24 hours by same or first connecting aircraft, provided holding tickets with reserved seats & not leaving the airport. There is no hotel accommodation at the airport.
All visitors holding tourist visas must also hold onward/return tickets & documents required for next destination.
Nationals of Bangladesh, India & Pakistan entering for the first time need a green entry card, issued by a Libyan People's Bureau abroad, but no return/onward ticket. For further entries they must hold a re-entry visa with a permanent visa issued by the immigration authorities.
All passengers entering Libya with a visa must register with the immigration offices within 7 days of arrival (except holders of a re-entry visa). For passengers staying at hotels this registration will be done automatically by hotel reception.
HEALTH: Compulsory vaccinations: Yellow fever certificate if arriving from infected areas.
Recommended immunisations: Diphtheria, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Polio, TB, Tetanus & Typhoid.
Risks: Malaria exists from Feb to Aug in the south west of the country. Rabies.
WEATHER: Apart from along the Mediterranean coast Libya's climate is almost entirely desert. The winter period (Nov-Mar) on the Mediterranean coast is usually warm and sunny. Summers are hot but temperatures are tempered by strong sea breezes. In the south summer temperatures can be intense.
All
passports must be valid for six months.
