VISAS: The following nationals DO NOT require a visa: Ethiopia, Djibouti, Kenya, holders of a re-entry permit & holders of an Identification Card for Foreign Nationals of Ethiopian origin.
All visitors must hold onward/return tickets, documents required for next destination & USD 50 (or equivalent) per day of stay.
TRANSIT VISAS: Required by all except those as noted above and persons continuing their journey to a third country within 12 hours without leaving the airport, provided holding confirmed onward tickets.
HEALTH: Compulsory vaccinations: Yellow fever certificate if arriving from infected areas. All infants under 1 year are exempt.
Recommended immunisations: Cholera, Diphtheria, Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B, Malaria, Meningitis, Polio, TB, Tetanus, Typhoid & Yellow Fever.
Risks: Malaria exists all year throughout the country below 2,000 metres. There is no risk in Addis Ababa. Rabies.
WEATHER: Ethiopia has a mainly tropical climate which is moderated by altitude and has a definite wet season. The eastern lowlands are much drier with a hot desert type climate. In the highlands temperatures are rarely hot and rain mainly falls between Apr-Sep. Night temperatures can be low especially during the dry season and some snow may fall on the highest peaks. In the west there is mainly one wet season between Jul-Aug. North eastern and south eastern lowlands have high temperatures and low rainfall.
