VISAS FOR BOTSWANA

VISAS: The following nationals DO NOT require a visa: Botswana, holders of British passports,Antigua & Barbuda, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Bahamas, Barbados, Belgium, Belize, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Cyprus, Denmark, Dominica, Fiji, Finland, France, Gambia, Germany, Greece, Grenada, Guyana, Iceland, Ireland Rep, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Kenya, Kiribati, Lesotho, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malawi, Malaysia, Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Mexico, Namibia, Nauru, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Papua New Guinea, Portugal, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & Grenadines, Samoa, San Marino, Seychelles, Sierra Leone, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Spain, Swaziland, Sweden, Switzerland, Tanzania, Tonga, Trinidad & Tobago, Tuvalu, Uganda, United States, Uruguay, Vanuatu, Zambia, Zimbabwe & for stays up to 90 days by nationals of Argentina, Brazil & Mexico. For stays of more than 90 days visitors should apply to the Chief Immigration Officer, PO Box 942, Gaborone, Botswana.
TRANSIT VISAS: Required by all except those as noted above and persons continuing their journey by the same of first connecting aircraft without leaving the airport.
All visitors must hold onward/return tickets & sufficient funds for length of stay.
HEALTH: ( Compulsory vaccinations:) Yellow fever certificate if arriving from or having passed through infected areas. Countries & areas included in the endemic zones are considered as infected areas. It is also recommended that travellers making 3 or more visits per year, stays of more than 3 months in a rural area, high-risk occupational groups & backpackers staying more than 1 month have the following up to date immunisations: Cholera, diphtheria, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, malaria, polio, TB, tetanus & typhoid.
Malaria exists throughout the year especially from Nov-Jun in the northern regions including along the Zimbabwean border, Zambezi river and all game parks north of the Kalahari desert.
WEATHER: Summers are hot, winters particularly cold but conditions are changeable throughout the year. The north tends to be cooler & wetter than the south, winters here are dreary with low temperatures. In the mountains heavy rain can fall at any time & winters may be extreme with long periods of snow. The most pleasant time is between Apr-Sep which has warm days & mild evenings.
