VISAS: The following nationals DO NOT require a visa: Bhutan & India. Initial visas are granted for stays up to 15 days. Applications can be made through any travel agency operating in Bhutan. Tourism is limited due to the Governments policy on preservation of culture & environment. Free individual travel is not permitted, all visitors are required to book with an authorised tour operator in Bhutan. All visitors must hold confirmed onward/return tickets, documents required for next destination & funds of USD 200 per day of stay.
HEALTH: (Compulsory vaccinations:) Yellow fever certificate if arriving from infected areas. It is also recommended that travellers making 3 or more visits per year, stays of more than 3 months in a rural area, high-risk occupational groups & backpackers staying more than 1 month have the following up to date immunisations: Diphtheria, hepatitis A, hepatitis B, Japanese B encephalitis, malaria, polio, TB, tetanus & typhoid.
Malaria exists all the year in the southern low-lying districts.
WEATHER: Bhutan is a small country nestling in the Himalayas where temperatures are governed by altitude. Rainfall is less during spring & autumn where the days are warm & sunny. Winter months can be extremely cold in high regions & lowland foothills can also experience very chilly nights.
